Names & Nomenclature — Fleeceflower Stem, sold as Fleeceflower Stem (Ye Jiao Teng) and declared on the label as Fleeceflower Stem / Ye Jiao Teng (Polygonum multiflorum), is the vine of the fo-ti plant, botanically Reynoutria multiflora (Thunb.) Moldenke, synonyms Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. and Fallopia multiflora, of the family Polygonaceae (the knotweed family); its stem is known pharmacopeially as Polygoni multiflori caulis; in Traditional Chinese Medicine it is 夜交藤 (yè jiāo téng) or 首乌藤 (shǒu wū téng), and it has no classical Ayurvedic name; in German, Spanish, and French it is generally referred to as ye jiao teng; and its common English names include fleeceflower stem and tuber fleeceflower vine.
