Names & Nomenclature — Couch Grass, sold as Couch Grass and declared on the label as Couch Grass (Elymus repens), is botanically Elymus repens (L.) Gould, synonyms Agropyron repens (L.) P.Beauv. and Elytrigia repens (L.) Desv. ex Nevski, of the family Poaceae (the grass family); its rhizome is known pharmacopeially as Graminis rhizoma; it has no classical Traditional Chinese Medicine or Ayurvedic name; in German it is Kriechende Quecke or Gemeine Quecke, in Spanish grama or grama del norte, and in French chiendent or chiendent rampant; and its common English names include couch grass, quackgrass, twitch, dog grass, and quitch.
