Names & Nomenclature — Haritaki, sold as Haritaki and declared on the label as Chebulic Myrobalan / Haritaki (Terminalia chebula), is botanically Terminalia chebula Retz. of the family Combretaceae; its fruit is known pharmacopeially as Chebulae fructus (Myrobalani fructus); in Traditional Chinese Medicine it is 诃子 (hē zǐ), and in Ayurveda the Sanskrit Harītakī, Abhayā, or Pathyā (Hindi Harad); in German it is Chebulische Myrobalane, in Spanish mirobálano quebúlico or haritaki, and in French myrobalan chébule; and its common English names include chebulic myrobalan, black myrobalan, harad, and ink nut.
