Names & Nomenclature — Bai Hua She She Cao, sold as Bai Hua She She Cao and declared on the label as Bai Hua She She Cao (Hedyotis diffusa), is botanically Scleromitrion diffusum (Willd.) R.J.Wang, with synonyms Hedyotis diffusa Willd. and Oldenlandia diffusa (Willd.) Roxb., of the family Rubiaceae (the madder family); its whole herb is known pharmacopeially as Hedyotidis diffusae herba; in Traditional Chinese Medicine it is 白花蛇舌草 (bái huā shé shé cǎo), and it has no classical Ayurvedic name; in German, Spanish, and French it is generally referred to by name; and its common English names include snake-needle grass and spreading hedyotis.
