Names & Nomenclature — Saw Palmetto, sold as Saw Palmetto and declared on the label as Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens), is botanically Serenoa repens (W.Bartram) Small of the family Arecaceae (the palm family); its fruit is known pharmacopeially as Sabalis serrulatae fructus (Serenoae fructus); it has no classical Traditional Chinese Medicine or Ayurvedic name; in German it is Sägepalme or Zwergsägepalme, in Spanish palma enana americana, sabal, or saw palmetto, and in French palmier nain, chou palmiste, or sabal; and its common English names include saw palmetto, sabal, and dwarf palmetto.
