Names & Nomenclature — Pleurisy Root, sold as Pleurisy Root and declared on the label as Pleurisy Root (Asclepias tuberosa), is botanically Asclepias tuberosa L. of the family Apocynaceae (formerly Asclepiadaceae); its root is known pharmacopeially as Asclepiadis tuberosae radix; it has no classical Traditional Chinese Medicine or Ayurvedic name; in German it is Knollige Seidenpflanze or Pleuritiswurzel, in Spanish raíz de pleuresía or algodoncillo tuberoso, and in French asclépiade tubéreuse or racine de pleurésie; and its common English names include pleurisy root, butterfly weed, orange milkweed, and Canada root.
