Names & Nomenclature — Nettle Leaf, sold as Nettle Leaf and declared on the label as Nettle Leaf (Urtica dioica), is botanically Urtica dioica L. of the family Urticaceae; its leaf is known pharmacopeially as Urticae folium; in Traditional Chinese Medicine it is 荨麻 (qián má), and in India it is known by the Hindi Bichhu booti (no distinct classical Sanskrit name); in German it is Große Brennnessel or Brennnessel, in Spanish ortiga or ortiga mayor, and in French ortie or grande ortie; and its common English names include stinging nettle, common nettle, and nettle leaf.
