Names & Nomenclature — Gao Ben, sold as Ligusticum (Gao Ben) and declared on the label as Ligusticum / Gao Ben (Ligusticum sinense), is botanically Ligusticum sinense Oliv. of the family Apiaceae (the carrot family); its rhizome is known pharmacopeially as Ligustici rhizoma; in Traditional Chinese Medicine it is 藁本 (gǎo běn), and it has no classical Ayurvedic name; in German it is Chinesischer Liebstöckel or Gao Ben, in Spanish ligústico chino or gao ben, and in French ligustique de Chine or gao ben; and its common English names include Chinese lovage, ligusticum, and gao ben.
