Names & Nomenclature — Andrographis, sold as Andrographis and declared on the label as Andrographis (Andrographis paniculata), is botanically Andrographis paniculata (Burm.f.) Nees of the family Acanthaceae; its aerial parts are known pharmacopeially as Andrographidis herba; in Traditional Chinese Medicine it is 穿心莲 (chuān xīn lián), and in Ayurveda the Sanskrit Kālmegha or Bhūnimba (Hindi Kalmegh); in German it is Andrographis or Kalmegh, in Spanish andrográfis, and in French andrographis or chirette verte; and its common English names include king of bitters, green chireta, and creat.
